If you haven’t got plans for the ACT May long weekend, then why not join the Club for a weekend ride on sealed roads through the Rylstone, Bylong, Gulgong and Hill End region? Outbound on the Saturday (overnighting in Rylstone), riding Sunday (overnighting in Hill End) and returning home on the Monday. Those short on time are welcome to join for the first leg to Taralga for coffee, or for one night rather than two (either Rylstone or Hill End – your choice!).

GS Route: For those keen to plan a gravel/dirt ride, you’re more than welcome to join us en route, or at Rylstone or Hill End. For the brave and not faint-hearted, there’s always the Bridle Track! https://www.nsw.gov.au/visiting-and-exploring-nsw/locations-and-attractions/bridle-track

Accommodation  book your own accommodation directly, depending on your preference for 1 or 2 nights, or for pub or motel or camping (it’s a popular area so consider booking early), e.g.:

Rylstone:

Note: Rylstone Caravan Park is currently closed but hoping to reopen in May.

Kandos (7km from Rylstone):

Hill End:

Proposed TS Routes (to be confirmed mid-May):

Day 1:  Canberra to Rylstone via Gundaroo, Gunning, Taralga, Oberon, Tarana, Meadow Flat, Portland, Capertree and Glen Alice (386 km):   Google Maps

Day 2: Rylstone to Hill End via Sandy Hollow (Bylong Valley Way), Gulgong and Hargraves (350 km):  Google Maps

Day 3: Hill End to Canberra via Sofala, Mt. Panorama Circuit (plus lap), Trunkey Creek, Tuena, Goulburn and Bungendore (373 km): Google Maps

Approximately 350-390 km per day on sealed main, secondary and minor roads (expect some damaged road surfaces).

Rest, lunch and petrol stops: TBC mid-May.

Meeting Point: Either make your own way to Rylstone or Hill End or meet fuelled and ready to go at the Little Sutton Bakehouse for a prompt 08:30 departure.

Register if you're interested in coming so I can let the pubs know likely numbers for lunch. Please email rides@bmwmcc.au if you plan to meet the group on the way, or at Rylstone or Hill End, so we don’t wait for you unnecessarily.

For those joining the ride along the way, or making their own way to Rylstone, proposed meeting points at this stage (with best guess times) are:

  • Little Sutton Bakehouse (1 Victoria St- leaving 08:30
  • Taralga – coffee/rest stop - arriving 10:10, leaving 10:45
  • Oberon/Tarana – lunch (TBC midday)
  • Rylstone – arrive 16:30 (ish).

And, thanks again to the Club member who proposed and planned this ride.

Cheers

Karen
